We encourage you to read this detailed explanation regarding the legality of betting in video games.

Rocketeer is Legal Under U.S. Law and in Most States

Rocketeer enables its users to compete for prize money in games of skill via the Internet.

Internet and online gaming is regulated by both U.S. federal and state laws. Gambling over the Internet was made illegal by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (the "UIGEA") (31 U.S.C. Sections 5361-5367). The UIGEA does not apply to Rocketeer because the games and contests it facilitates are primarily games of skill, not luck or chance. The UIGEA allows online gaming for cash prizes provided that:

  1. The value of the prize is established before the game begins and does not vary after the game starts or based on the number of participants or participant fees paid, and
  2. Outcomes are determined based on the relative skill or knowledge of the participants.

Rocketeer meets both criteria without question.

Even though Rocketeer is legal under U.S. federal laws, the following states specifically prohibit their residents from participating in online gaming for prizes, even if it's a game of skill:

  • Iowa
  • Louisiana
  • Montana
  • Maryland
  • Tennessee

If you are a resident of any of these states, YOU CAN NOT LEGALLY PLAY ROCKETEER. Rocketeer is currently legal in all other 45 states and in Canada.
